Parent Committee
The Parent Committee, made up of one parent from each classroom, but open to any interested parent, was formed to provide a source of support for the Center and its staff. This committee works on promoting fundraising projects such as Village Pizza nights and the grocery certificate program, has a subcommittee focused on food allergy issues, and helps to plan Center events such as work-days, Staff Appreciation Week, and family picnics. The Committee also serves as a sounding board for the Center’s Director when needed, and provides an outlet for parent involvement. The Committee meets about once a month, and most of the communication is via email.

The responsibilities of the Parent Committee are:

  1. Work with the Director and Staff to coordinate and facilitate center-wide functions.
  2. Work with teachers to coordinate and facilitate family involvement activities for individual classrooms.
  3. Plan and implement  Center fundraising
  4. Work with Center Staff and parents to plan and host four parent workdays annually, including documentation of individual family's hour of participation.
  5. Work with Center Staff to facilitate our efforts on behalf of young children in the community
  6. Serve as a resouce for new families as they "learn the ropes" of the Center.

The Parent Food Allergy Subcommittee

At CHDCC, it is a goal to keep each child with a food allergy safe and to honor identified food restrictions as best as possible.  The Parent Food Allergy Subcommittee works closely with the center to ensure that this goal is accomplished and that all children’s special dietary needs are met.  The committee meets on an as needed basis during the year to help develop standardized procedures and seek out helpful parent/community resources and staff training opportunities.

Interested parents should contact kmalzahn@nc.rr.com to be put on the contact list or for more information.
