Typical Day
7:30 Free Choice Time
Our day begins indoors with free choice time in the
activity centers. These centers are always open: Language,
Dramatic Play, Reading, Art, Blocks, and Manipulatives.
These centers are open on a rotating basis: Woodworking,
Discovery, Music, and Water/Sand Play. Children are
encouraged to work both independently and in small
groups at tasks of their choosing.
9:00 - 9:15 Wash Up and Morning Snack
Self-help skills and appropriate social interactions are stressed at this time.

Group 2 Circle Time/Group 1 Outside Time
Outside Time and Center Play
Children are divided into primary care-giving groups. One group of children goes
outside where the children can play independently or can join teacher-directed
games and activities. The other group of children stays inside for small group
activities and play in activity centers. After about an hour the groups are switched.
12:15-12:45 Lunch
Meals are provided in each classroom family style so
that children learn to set the table, serve themselves,
and pass dishes to each other. Children are offered,
and encouraged to try, a variety of foods. Although
an effort is made to help them select a balanced
lunch, they are never forced to eat.
12:45 Clean-up and Prepare for Rest
Children continue to use self-help skills by putting
their dishes away, cleaning up, and getting their mats
ready for naptime. Children are encouraged to help
each other.
1:15 Nap
Children are encouraged to rest by listening to a story and/or soft music.
3:15 Wake Up and Afternoon Snack Time
Children are allowed to slowly wake up and put their nap items away. Then it’s
time for eating once again!
4:00 Indoor/Outdoor Free Choice Time
Children may rotate indoors and out depending on the day and their preference.
5:45 Center Closes
Note: This is merely a guide to a
typical day. Teachers will modify the schedule to allow
an
exciting group
interaction to be completed.
